New Year New Motivation
The new year is here, the parties have past and the bills have started to arrive. If you aren't motivated by this point, then you might want to check your pulse to see if you are alive or not. I can say for sure that I'm more motivated than ever to make this year a success and hit the ground running in 2011.
In order to do so I needed to get a bunch of things in order, and I have decided to take a different approach than I had taken in years past. Although I can't say that I've been unsuccessful in the past, I feel there is room for improvement, and heck, change is good right.
This time around I've put down the goals for 2011 and spoke about how I have "initially" thought to achieve them.
- 50K in extra cash from non-existing online businesses. This one might take a bit of explaining to completely understand. I already have businesses that are making money, and most of them are making good money. Those site will continue to operate and I'll improve on them as needed, however I'd like to add revenue from new areas that I don't currently make money from. One of these areas of revenue is the direct marketing company is signed up for that I believe has a ton of potential. That's one area, another area is by creating my own information product.
- Update Websites. For the past several years, I suppose I've been a bit lazy, or not motivated enough to change the websites that I currently have running. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. This may be a good way to looking at things in certain situations, but not all. Some of my sites are starting to show their age, and several I'm sure are losing sales because they look like they were developed in the late 90's, which they probably were. Not only would I like to improve these sites, but I'd like to apply those changes to my new sites. One thing I know I'd like to work more with is a better shopping cart. Oscommerce has run it's usefulness for me.
- Socially Noticed. Social media is something I've paid attention to, but I've not really given it an all out effort. I want to step further into social media and make things happen with it. Right now I'm dying on the vine when it comes to twitter, and I'm rarely engaged in conversations. Social media isn't going anywhere, so it's time to make a real concerted go at it.
- Make Money while I Sleep With the web it's always on, which means customers from everywhere can find you and buy from you when you are asleep. Isn't it the goal of every website owner to make money while they do the things they enjoy? Well I'll like to do the same and report my findings to the masses. In addition, I'd like my followers to contribute to my learning.
- Have Fun I've saved the best for last. This year it's all about my family and spending more time with them. When I'm at work I want to work, and I want to leave it there. I no longer want to carry a pager, or be "Bossed" around by someone else. I want to put effort into my clients and deliver very valuable products. This year I want to learn and hopefully help others learn more along the way.

How to Use a French Press: Step-by-Step
1. Use water that is slightly cooler than boiling.
Bring water to a boil, then wait a minute or two. Or cool the boiling water with a shot of cool or cold water.
Use fresh water that has not been boiled before for the best taste. The reason is because the water we drink (from the tap or bottle) has been aerated and has dissolved gases that make the water taste better. Boiling removes the gases and leaves a "flat" taste. (I'm not 100% convinced of this and am usually too lazy to empty the electric kettle of previously-boiled water. But this advice has been handed down for generations, is often quoted by tea and coffee connoiseurs, and the explanation sounds reasonable.)
Tip: Put a bit of hot water in the empty French press to warm it up. You'll end up with a hotter final cup.
2. Grind your own coffee beans.
Freshly ground coffee is easily 10 times better than pre-ground coffee. Even non-connoisseurs will instantly notice the significant difference in aroma, flavor and overall awesomeness of the cup of coffee.
Tip: For the best taste, freshly ground coffee is more important than having perfectly sized grounds. So if the cost of a burr grinder is prohibitive, choose to buy whole beans and grind at home with a cheap blade grinder versus buying pre-ground coffee.
3. Use a coarse grind.
You want uniform large pieces so the grinds don't slip through the mesh filter. But the grind shouldn't be so large that you can't extract most of the goodness, making for weak bland coffee.
Tip: Adjust the strength of your brew by adjusting your grind size. I like my coffee strong, so I aim for a finer grind that is just large enough for the mesh.
