Working For The Man
So I haven't kept up on this blog as much as I would have liked. However I do have a really good, if not entirely fabulous reason for skipping out on the whole blogging idea. I've been working my butt off to get my own thing going and depend less on my 9 to 5. However, nobody said it would be easy, and it takes dedication day in and day out to stay the course.
One thing that I've noticed is that it's almost impossible to capture all of your lessons learned. I've been learning something new on a daily basis, and I don't see that stopping any time soon. Probably the most important thing that I have learned is ....
that I don't know everything. I know, hard to admin right? Well it's the truth, and just as important a lesson is that the people that you talk to don't know everything either. I've had countless "experts" give me advice on this and that, and non of them are actually running their own business right now. Nope, for one reason or another, all the experts move to a mode of being experts and not actually running businesses.
It's not my position to say whether or not these people are good at what they do, I assume they are, but learning about how YOU work is the most important aspect. Over the past several months, I have learned that I work best when things are orderly and without clutter. So I work really hard at keeping a clean desk and making sure paperwork is filed. I've also learned that I like a system for everything. That means that I like things in steps, and running your own business, especially when you are starting out isn't always that easy to accomplish. Big businesses have big workflows, while us little guy have one workflow, YOU!.
So I've learned that nothing gets done without a lot of hard work. Customers will not line up outside your door, unless they know you are there. Also, being yourself goes a really long way. People are really making an investment in you and not your business.
I'd like nothing more than to hear your comments and experiences regarding your own business and how the first quarter of this year has turned out.

I liked this post. Do you have any good resources for those who are looking for a job instead of doing your own thing?

This is a great article. It's something we ALL need to keep in our heads, that's for sure. I'm including a link to another site I've found really timely, too - just like this post.
Thanks and Regards/-
