Two for One
Yesterday was an exciting day, although I didn't actually make money on one of my own websites, my products were still selling. That's right, it's like having two websites for the price of one. I figured that if I could other people to sell my things, then it wouldn't be so hard to make my daily goals.
I've always believed in multiple streams of income, and I also believe that nobody is successful by themselves. My goal is to make others wealthy, and if I'm helping make someone else wealthy, then I too must be wealthy. There is truly enough to go around, so why not help someone else along the way.
This is where my friend Russ comes in.
Russ is a friend of mine that wanted to make a little extra cash. At first I didn't know what to tell him besides, good luck. But Russ didn't want to hear that, he wanted actual advice. The only advice that I could give Russ was that he should do what he's good at.
Think about that for a second. We spend most of our day working. Usually we are working for someone else and ultimately making them money. However, they are giving us something very valuable that we can use to our advantage. That's right, our employers actually give us something very valuable and we need to take advantage of it. They are paying us to do a job, and to do that job we need skills. Sometimes they even pay us to broaden our skills by sending us to training. Unless you work for an evil overlord, then you probably don't spend more than 8 hour behind the four walls of your job. If you do then that's a problem I can't immediately fix for you, but for those that only spend 8 hours, I have a solution for you.
Take what I told Russ. Use those skills that your employer has given you to your advantage. If you have a highly specified skill, then use it outside of your current job. Remember, we are trying to replace our income here, and if our employer is willing to pay you for this skill, surely someone else is as well. Look for opportunities to use these skills outside of your current job.
Russ did listen to me and told me immediately what he thought his number one skill was. SELLING!!! So I gave Russ a challenge, and I must admit the challenge was pretty self serving. For years I had been creating my own T-Shirt designs and designing my own decals for cars. Since I really never had an interest in selling them, I told Russ that he could use them if he thought he could sell them. Well guess what.... In two days he sold 4 shirts and a handful of decals. I was totally shocked, but happy at the same time.
The whole affiliate thing now makes total sense to me. Not only can I continue to sell my products, but I can also have others selling mine. I lowered my price so that Russ could make more money, and bang we both end up ahead. I need to look into more affiliate type of stuff, but this seems to be a pretty good model at the moment.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear what they are, but the idea of having a virtual sales team is pretty exciting to me.
For those looking for figures, here we are currently:
Sales:
- Jan. 01, 2010: $49.50
- Jan. 02, 2010: $49.50
- Jan. 03, 2010: $24.00
- Total: $123.00
Still not where we want to be, but it's still income.
