Helping Customers In Need
This week I took on a project that produces no revenue for me, and will probably never put any money in my bank account. Sometimes it just worth it to help others and do something that you feel good about. Unless you've been living under a rock for the last month or so, you've inevitably heard of the disaster in Haiti. An organization came to me asking for a donation of my time and energy and not a product.
I've been asked to screen print 100 shirts for a relief effort, and all I have to do is donate the ink and the time. They are actually paying for the shirts, they just couldn't afford the screening service. I'm ok doing this kind of work once in a while, but it can't be something that becomes an ongoing theme.
Working with outside organizations like this can often times lead to big orders for your business. However, one shouldn't go into the deal thinking, or believing that the ultimate outcome will be to get a gigantic order. Chances are you'll never see anything materialize from it. Preparing yourself for reality and be surprised if something more comes out of it.
With that I think it's important for a certain part of your business to be recognized for the work you do in the community. I know that we are in business to make money, and we never want to loose focus of that, but I think that doing things for those in need really does have a positive effect on you as a person and how others see you.

Lending a helping hand is awesome.
