Make That Decision
The first step is usually the toughest step. In our case the first step is making a decision as to what we are actually going to do to make some cash. Keep in mind that what we are actually doing is creating a model that is repeatable and that promotes our desire for passive income. We want to make money for a long time, and create something that will pay us again and again. We aren't trying to create some "Get Rich Quick" scheme, nor are we trying to create something people don't need.
Really what we need to do is think about the things that we know a lot about and share that content with others who might be interested in knowing more about your subject. It will make more sense with an example, but instead of using an example, lets start to build something real and see how it does. That way we'll be able to see exactly how things are progressing and it will be real, not a theory of how things should work.
In figuring out what it is that I'm going to write about, I take many things into account. First and foremost is thinking about the subjects I know something about. To do this first step I usually fire up notepad or even go a little old school and break out the pen and paper. Don't take this step lightly, it's very important because the choice we make here is what we are going to spend a great deal of time on, so we better know what we are talking about and enjoy it.
Step #1
Lets write down the subjects that we feel we know a lot about. Below is my list.
- Web Design
- Search Engine Optimization
- Blogging
- Relationship Marketing
- Graphic Design
This list represents some of the things that I work with on a daily basis. I'm sure if you wrote down your own list that you would find that you have many talents and interests in things your friends considered you the expert in. Which brings me to my second step.
Step #2
Take this list and figure out which one or two items your the most passionate about. Keep in mind that you are going to be doing something with the content, and if you want people to pay attention you need to have a passion for it. Nobody wants to read boring stuff, so make sure it's something you really like and enjoy.
Be Relevant
By now we have a pretty nicely narrowed list of topics that we know something about and really enjoy. These two things together are very important to the success of the product, however it isn't complete until we think about the world around us. I'm talking about how relevant the topic is in today's climate. Lets face it, your going to be able to sell a lot more ebooks on how to find a job, than you are on how to buy and expensive boat. The economy now is focused on saving money and in a lot of cases how to make ends meet. I'm a firm believer in any topic will sell, I also believe that some will sell a heck of a lot more than others. Keep the reader in mind when your thinking about your topic.
Summary
So far we have made a list of subjects we know something about. In addition to that we've taken that list and broken it down to the point where we can make a decision about creating a product we feel passionate about. I've decided to create an information product (eBook) about building a website for your business for FREE, and using all the tools Google provides to get it noticed and generate money.
Next we will get into writing the content and how it gets organized. Stay posted because most of the book will be released here, so if your paying attention and following along you'll be able to get your own digital product on the market in no time.
