eBook: Step By Step is Finished

As you can probably notice from the time of the last post, that I've been up to something. Well that something has been finishing my ebook on how to create ebooks. That seems to oversimplify things a bit, so let me give you a little more indepth review of my new book, and what it's all about.

If you've been following this blog for any amount of time, you'll know that I've been very interested in creating something that will sell it'self over and over again, with minimal effort. When I say mininimal effort I don't mean every touching it again, no I mean not recreating something each and every time it's asked for. After trying to find recources and information on creating eBooks, it became clear to me that there wasn't any good resources out there to walk me through what I wanted to do. So I went ahead and created my eBook to do just that, walk you through how to create an eBook.

How Much Do I Write?

How much to write in your book is a question I get a lot. It's also the only question that I can answer very quickly, and the answer is ... I don't know. That's right, I don't know how much you should write, because I don't know your subject. How much you write depends on how much information there is to make your reader feel like they got something of value.

I like to try and explain it like this. Write your information down as if your the one that is reading it. If you think something is missing than write more. If you find yourself writing garbage and start writing just to add worthless facts, then you aren't really doing your reader much good. Keep in mind that your writing these guides as a way to inform someone about something. Your not writing these to be worthless.

Don't Waist Another Day

Everyday that your not writing is a day wasted that you won't be able to sell your information online. When I set out to write a book, I try to break it down into manageable pieces. The first thing that I always do is outline. I'm sure there are fifth grade teachers everywhere cheering for joy, because the writing skills you learned in grammar school are going to be very useful in creating your ebook.

What follows is the outline I used to create my “Blogging with Blogger and Get Paid by Google”.

Monetizing Your Content With Ads

You have created that wonderful website, and your designer has designed you a great "blog", and you have now curled up with your laptop and started writing content that everyone is going to enjoy reading. But wait! How will you make money with all the hard work that you've put into your blog? How will advertisers find me? How much should I charge?

Never fear, there is a simple solution that you can use that takes all the guess work out of monetizing your content. The answer you seek is Google Adsense, and if you haven't heard of it before, it might just be the key component you need to generate a few extra dollars of income for the content on your website.

Tools That I Use

I got an email from someone reading along, and they wanted to know the "Tools" that I use to create my eBooks. That's a pretty good question because I actually use two different tools. First let me start by saying, the tools I use are dictated by the place that I'm currently working from.

There are many times that I work from the local coffee house, and there are times when I'm working in my home office. If I'm working from my home office, I use my PC and I use a word processor called Open Office. I like OpenOffice because it's FREE and it seems to have all the same capabilities that Microsoft Word has, with the added bonus of pdf generation. If I'm working from a coffee house or some other remote location, I'm usually on my laptop and using my MacBook. On my MacBook, I use Microsoft Word, which is an older version, but gets the job done.

Some Sites Can Mislead

So I'm on Twitter checking some of the urls that people have tweeted to me, and I come across one that's rather interesting. The title read something like "How you can make $50 a day", or something to that effect. Since I want to know about all the avenues to make money online, I check it out to see what the buzz is all about.

eHow a paid How To site

So I've been reading some blogs about how people are starting to make some extra cash with a site called "eHow". So today I'd thought I'd make an attempt of figure out what it's all about, and report on here what my findings are.

When I first went to the site, it appeared to be something that I would use, more than I would contribute to. However after searching the site for some content that I felt I knew something about, it dawned on me that some of the content really isn't that good. In addition to that, some of the content was old and out of date. So at first glance I think there might be some opportunity here.

I now twitter

Lets face it, if you want to be online and have even moderate success, you need to be doing one of two things.

  1. Facebooking, I call this "booking"
  2. Tweeting, which is microblogging. You know small blogging.

I've decided to open up my own "twitter" account so that I can post more, but less. You know what I mean, I can post more often, but not as in depth. All I know is that twitter is all the rage these days and people just love it. I bet half the people that you see that no longer look up from their phone while they are walking are actually twittering.

Believe me, it's a huge phenomenon and you need to be a part of it. If you need people to follow you, then just let me know, I'll follow anyone that follows me. You can follow me by going to this address http://twitter.com/dayjobkilling.

The Writing Begins

Today I will begin writing my masterpiece. Well not so much a masterpiece as it will be a helpful guide in getting your own blog created and then getting it ranked highly by google and other search engines. But the point of this whole thing isn't about the contents of my guide. No it's how do I get it online and start making money with it.

However, before we can worry about getting it online we have to write it. Here is how I like to get started, and it's probably not any different that what your grammar school teacher taught you. Lets see if we can remember what that whole process was all about.

Make That Decision

The first step is usually the toughest step. In our case the first step is making a decision as to what we are actually going to do to make some cash. Keep in mind that what we are actually doing is creating a model that is repeatable and that promotes our desire for passive income. We want to make money for a long time, and create something that will pay us again and again. We aren't trying to create some "Get Rich Quick" scheme, nor are we trying to create something people don't need.

Really what we need to do is think about the things that we know a lot about and share that content with others who might be interested in knowing more about your subject. It will make more sense with an example, but instead of using an example, lets start to build something real and see how it does. That way we'll be able to see exactly how things are progressing and it will be real, not a theory of how things should work.

I've got Feeds

Not that this has much to do with making money or how I handled my business matters, but I now have a syndication feed on this blog. Many of you readers sent me comments wanted to know if you could subscribe to a RSS Feed. Well now you can. You can either find that feed in the address bar, or click on the link on the right hands side of the page that says "Subscribe".

That's all there is to subscribing to my feeds.

Let's Get The Show On The Road

Now that we are fully acquainted with what we are going to do here, I think it's time we get going. Basically I'm going to go through the process I used to start building residual income from my blog. I want to prove to you that anyone, and I mean anyone can create something that you can get paid on while your sleeping. I know that sounds like a fairy tail, and for some it is, but it's possible because it happens for me every day.

I learned long ago, but not before it was too late, that working for someone else is not going to make you rich. It will make someone rich, but chances are it's not going to be you. I needed to stop trading dollars for hours and build something for myself that will pay me for my hard work.
